It tells the story of a man imprisoned, as Leadbelly probably was at the time that he recorded it. One of the most influential songwriters and guitarists in blues history, Leadbelly's legacy lives on today through the recordings of his music. This tune has been kept alive through the years by the likes of Johnny Cash, Van Morrison, Paul McCartney, even ABBA covered this one. It's most famous reincarnation came from Creedence Clear Water Revival's version. Which brings me to the movie stumper for today.
