Free Acoustic Guitar Lessons

Free acoustic guitar lessons

Because the acoustic guitar is so popular as a beginner's instrument, you can get free acoustic guitar lessons from all over. Anyone who knows more chords than you will usually be happy to give you a free lesson or two. It's all part of the folk process - passing music around from one person to another.

A lot of the music that people play on acoustic guitar is easy to learn this way. Folk music, blues, country and bluegrass all work well on acoustic guitar. So do the rock and pop styles that they inspired.

But even on the beginner-friendly acoustic guitar, free lessons will only get you so far. There may be hundreds of songs you can play with three chords, but after a while, you'll want to branch out. This is especially true if you take an interest in solo acoustic guitar players like Leo Kottke, Ed Gerhard, Tommy Emmanuel, or Michael Hedges. Now you're talking about chops, and free lessons aren't going to get you there.

Free lessons certainly have their value, although it's not what you might think. It's not the chords, songs or licks you might learn. The real value is in what you can learn about the lessons you'll pay for once you get serious. (Because, really: free lessons are like hitchhiking. Sure it's cheap, but is it any way to travel? Is it the best way to get where you're going? Sooner or later, if you really want to be a player, you're going to sign up for real lessons with a good teacher.)

A free lesson lets you learn about the teacher: his/her style, background, technique, personality, interests, methods, etc. When it comes to studying guitar, finding the right teacher is critical. With the right teacher your progress will amaze you. Your technique, repertoire and knowledge will grow faster than you can imagine. Even though you'll be working harder, it will feel easier because it will all make sense. That's the real value of free guitar lessons - they help you find the right teacher.

WorkshopLive has dozens of great teachers who have recorded hundreds of guitar lessons in your favorite styles - jazz, folk, rock, blues, and classical. We have teachers who specialize in acoustic guitar. And, of course, we have free lessons, too. Our lessons use video, guitar tablature and music notation in any combination you want. You can take each lesson as often as you like, any time you like. You can pause a lesson in the middle, repeat the parts you're most interested in, and slow the exercises down so you can play along.

Once you've tried the free lesson you can also 'interview' all of our WorkshopLive teachers. Each of them has recorded a video introduction, where they talk about how they teach and what their lessons are like. You can also see what recordings they've made and even listen to a sample of their playing - all to help you pick the right teacher.

So, if acoustic guitar is your passion, try one of WorkshopLive's free acoustic guitar lessons. Remember: even though all free guitar lessons are free, they're not all worth the same.
