Keyboard Lessons With Cathy Schane-Lydon
Cathy's animated and fun teaching style will get you hooked on the keyboard. Her keyboard lessons are for beginners who want to learn the basics, but who also like to experiment with their own ideas. She'll teach you a whole bunch of Rock and Holiday songs too, preparing you for your first public performance.

At the absolute beginner level, Cathy shows you how to practice and get better on your own; she explains chords and inversions, major and minor chords, broken chords, and she'll introduce 7th chords. Learn all about major and minor scales with fingerings, natural and harmonic minor, intervals, and syncopation. Explore trickier rhythms, sustain pedal techniques, reading a piece cold, and different styles, incl. Folk, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Classical, Romantic, Baroque.

In "Your Own Music," Cathy discusses some basic tools that help you with playing 'free' or improvising. Explore the black keys and the pentatonic scale, learn to play a tune by ear, understand the importance of the tonic or home key and the use of chords, including altered chords with 6ths, 7ths and suspensions. Using all notes of the keyboard, develop your skill of spontaneous improvisation.

Cathy's song lessons include Rock tunes such as "If I Had a Million Dollars," "Lyin' Eyes," "Stairway to Heaven," "Lola," and also some easy Holiday songs.
